Holy crap that guy is lucky...don't have time to read the entire thread but after checking out the pissing match on page 11 it could make for a good read!

Very Lucky guy,

the pissing match is laughable, internet pissing matches usually are when neither side will acknowledge the other might have a good point, kinda like we do here time to time.

Although a good fish story leaves one feeling better!

If the boat driver is not paying attention there's not much you can do.

As an observer over in the Santa Cruz area beaches, red and orange kayaks are the most visible.

If you add an orange flag you double your visibility.

I'm always really good about wearing my PFD, waders or farmer john, having a buddy or leaving a float plan, etc., but never gave any thought to flying an orange flag.  I think that's my next addition.

Wow, that is a lucky paddler.

I'm a proponent of bright kayaks.

I'll admit I like the "natural" look of the drab colors, and I dig the camo schemes out there, but IMHO anything sand, brown, dark green, gray, or even moderate blue-these colors just disappear in the right conditions.
On the big blue I take visibility over personal color preference.

best for visibility are yellow, orange, red, or the neon wasabi green, just from my own observation.

I think the flags are a good idea, however flags are required over there i think and this still happened. I'm thinking a flair gun would draw attention if fired across the bow. In this case dealing with the law becomes secondary to my life and safety. Yaking down in San Diego during the summer can be extremely dangerous in the afternoon when the PB's have had a few and try to impress there friends with swamping a yak. I've "donated" some banks sinkers to boats that are with in throwing distance and not slowing down. Its even better when they wave with a cocktail in their hand.

Visibility is only effective if the arse is looking. I prefer to cover all my option, including high decible sound. I just pulled the compressed air horn from my boat and added it to the yak safety gear.
next will be the paintball gun.....with frozen paintballs!!!  :smt003
