This thread is intriguing to me.  Like...dude,  really?!  You can do that?   I think I could get into that right up to the point I am eaten by a great white.  :smt007

What dos DFG say about this?

Heck if you can free dive (just snorkel) off the yak and do some recon that would be worthwhile,  spearing a big one when things are slow is an awesome proposition.

Headed to do some freshwater fishing off the yak manana @San Pablo Rez.

Well, the weather has been crap for getting out,
And now after many months of prep, it was suggested that I get a different suit. :smt013
Apparently the suit I have would be best for scuba and a little restrictive for freediving.
I'm no expert, but this made sense to me ... easier movement means more relaxed ... equals more down time.
So 2 questions;
1- where is the best deal on a FREEDIVE suit?
2- Anybody have intrest in a XXL SCUBA suit? ... (tried on once)

I will be out before GS6 or all hell will break loose :smt011

Good ? On the suit. I started with an inexpensive one piece 7mm. I'm new at diving as well. I found the suit to constrictive, not to mention I wasn't going down over 10'. Last year I bought an Excel infinity drylock in 5/4 mm. It's more of a surfing suit but I love it. Pain in the ass to put on though. Good luck and be safe.

I got the last years model of the Excel Polar quad for a really good price when asking why it was half off the store told me that Excel changed the logo then put all the old ones on clearance  :smt007 . I like the Polar Quad because its 8,7,6,5mm the 8mm is for your core while the joints are more flexible with the thinner neopreme they are rugged too and its great for both scuba and freediving. I wouldnt get a freed dive suit unless you are really going to treat it well and not bang it up to much sense im not so advanced in diving im still clumsy and would destroy and open cell freedive suit pretty quickly. Hope this is helpful and if you every want to go diving my days off from work are sunday and monday too. Not much of a teacher just starting out with this too but always nice to have a dive buddy.

Well,
After spending all winter getting all geared up and than finding out I had the wrong suit. Than missing a couple good days to hit the blue.
I called Greg at the freedive shop in Sac. (great guy) and am happy to say that I will have a new suit in a couple days, (unfortunatley Mon. or Tue.) and will have to miss another good opertunity this weekend :smt012
Good news is this should be the last necessary piece (for now) and I'm itching to get started :smt003

Thanks for all the great advice and encouragement.

See Ya Soon,

You can still freedive and have fun in a scuba suit...I'm on my second cheapo 7mm jumpsuit from leisure pro and have killed plenty of fish in them.

 :smt003

One day I'll be good enough for a "real" freedive suit, but for now I'm having fun with what I got.

I'll buy yours off you if you want....if it's a one piece...I already got a back-up two piece farmer john/jacket combo...

PM LinglessPig and the Fishmaster if you want to go out on Saturday...wear the suit you have...you'll do fine and have a blast....there's a good chance I will be out with them too, but can't commit 100% so PM them for details.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

I'm planning on diving Monday 3/12 with some of the fellas for my birthday Eric...if you are free and want to come out and dive with us, you would be more than welcome to join.

PM me if interested and I will keep you in the loop.

Course....last year for my birthday dive day the Tsunami hit...so fingers crossed it goes better this year.

I didn't mean to make it sound like a freedive suit isn't worth it..I'm sure it will be super comfortable and awesome...I just think that people can still dive and have fun in "regular" suits as well.

I'm actually just jealous and wish I had $$ and confidence that I wouldn't shred one...then I would buy one in a heart beat.

Anyway, hope to see you soon, let me know if you wanna sell your other suit and if you want to dive on 3/12.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Ya... I NEED a Freedive suit cause I'm an island boy and a wuss when it comes to cold.  If you have good cold tolerance, a scuba suit will work fine.

On a value-basis, I don't think anyone up here gets as much use for the buck as Jim.  ;)
