I use mine this way to carry two boats on top and gear in the bed.

You can get just as drunk on water
As you can get on dry land.

Ya thats what i was gonna do to for transport then when all unloaded flip it an stick it in the bed for easier unloading at the water

You'll want one of these http://www.drawtite.com/vh070hd.html?productid=vh070hd&channelid=FROOG to keep it from rattling and wobbling, bouncing your boat around, and something like this http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-8413DPF-Adjustable-Locking/dp/B00006407M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331192894&sr=8-2 so it will still be there in the bed when you get back. I also made a couple wooden shims to wedge in between the upright and the crosspiece to keep it quiet.
