Although I never met him, Eric Soares was a common name in the BASK circle and the OU community when I lived in SF in the 1990's. All of us newb ocean kayakers considered Soares and the Tsunami Rangers as what we aspired to be when we "grew up".
Although he passed too early, no one would ever say Eric Soares neglected living life to its absolute fullest. He was and will continue to be an inspiration to a legion of paddlers around the world, and especially here on the west coast of Cali.

His brother John was a juco teacher I took a poli sci class from at Butte College in 1990 or 91.  I think they had co-authored some guide books back around that time.  RIP and my condolences to the family.
