Anyone know what there is to do in Arizona?  I'm here till the 24th, in Chandler, taking out for relocation(demo) one of our tools in Intels fab 12.   Yesterday I found The riparian institute, (Bird watching/fishing park) forgot my binoculars, then found the Arizona Railroad musem.  Got to walk through a bunch 1930-40's restored rail cars.
I'll be searching the PC screen for "Attractions"  Next weekend I found out there's going to be an astronomy club star party, but the dark sky site they use is 100 miles out of Phonix!  Brought my bino's for this star party.

Any suggestions for next weekend?

If you're in to baseball, I believe spring training starts soon!  Not sure where Chandler is in relation to some of the larger cities, but it can't be too far, can it?

Go rent a boat up on canyon lake for some super fun smallies.just the drive in is worth it as you get a taste of the superstitions.
South Mtn Park has some pretty good desert riding...you can rent a bike (I think you still can), at cactus bikes on S Alma
If ya have your passport you are only a couple hours from Rocky Pt. Cabrillaand Sierra should be around
Sedona only an hour and a half...if you lie old mining towns come art colonies go up to Jerome
-place is a trip.
Tucson has the Arizona-Sonora Desert museum, which is the deserts answer to montereybay aquarium(without the politics)

Enough?

One more...go hike up the peak midway between chandler and Tucson on10.flowers should be starting to bloom and it is one hell of an ascent(kinda halfdomey-like)

These are some great suggestions, but if you're unable to leave the valley then there isn't much to do unless you're into strip malls. Out in Glendale spring training should be getting started. Or you could catch a Coyotes game if you like hockey. Otherwise the Phoenix area is pretty much one identical strip mal after another, with the occasional movie theater or mall thrown in. Downtown Tempe is ok if you're looking foir a place to grab a beer and look at college girls.  :smt004

Drive an hour and a half north and you're in Sedona with a ton of great hiking and fishing. Drive two and a half hours north and you're in Flagstaff with even more great hiking and skiing up at Snowbowl.

Rent some stix and shoot a round a golf, lots of options for that there.

If you have a car, what about driving through the apache trail.

Def go to sedona, and amybe take the pink jeep tour.  I did that and it was pretty fun.  A little out of e way but pleasant, worthwhile drive.

If you need to just cruise around, drive up scottsdale blvd.

For a shortish hike, go to the Boulders resort in scottsdale.  There is a walking trail that gives a decent view.

Skip the indian museum in phoenix, it suqt.

Food and Drink is about all you can expect in AZ  :smt044  Check out the Hard Rock Cafe in PHX, or take a stroll to Tempe, check out the bar called "The Library"  :smt007  Forget Hooters, LIBRARY!!!!   :smt044  Also check out Monte's for one of the best steak houses I've ever been too.  If your feeling spendy, look up The Salt Cellar and have some lobster stuffed lobster!  :smt003

I like AZ. I think you could be close to the big Cabela's that place is very cool. Golf is always an option.

This is likely too late seeing as how you are leaving soon, I had to chime in on this! ...As an Arizona local, I can attest that this summery is pretty much complete and accurate. I must reiterate that the Apache Trail is one of the greatest spectacles in Arizona (especially this time of year, before it gets too hot).  Apache lake is one of four reservoirs on the trail, and my personal favorite for it's seclusion, and very consistant SMB and LMB action.  Roosevelt Lake just upstream of Apache, produces Flathead catfish of monstrous sizes as well as great Bass.
As has already been said, Phoenix is 400 square miles of identical cookie-cutter homes and strip malls :smt013, but any direction you can go out of town reveals a diverse and beautiful desert and or mountain landscape.  The high country has some surprisingly good trout fishing opportunities.  A couple lake outside flagstaff even have Northerners.

Oh yeah, you are allowed to shoot guns too :smt001

Yep, my work here is close to done, (Tomorrow) I was able to travel out to Sedona, and while there opted to take one of them off-road jeep tours on the "Soldier pass trail"  The scenery was gorgeous, our trail guide seemed to know something of the trail.  The tour company, stuffed 8 people (driver and 7 passangers) into their jeep rubicon. (It was modified to seat 2 on the back)  Having jeeped over the "Rubicon" and Duzy Ershim trails in CA. many times, the soldier's pass trail was not that exciting for me.
My rental car's pass. window was busted out Sat night, Sun morning some time :smt011  so I spent most of Sunday dealing with getting a replacement.  Nothing was in the car to take, probably some drunk punk kids daring each other.

Arizona, once you get away from civilization is a beautiful state!  However, it's missing something.  For me thats "West clift drive" and the Monterey Bay.  Sorry to all you local's here in Az. but I miss my ocean!
