3 million in gold and they didn't have better secuirty?  Unbreakable glass?  Did anyone ever test it to see if it were truely unbreakable? Oh I guess someone did, and it failed.  After my tour to the sand box, I learned nothing is unbreakable, inpenatrable, or foolproof. In these economic times they should have had locked it up at night.

It was safe for 73 years, sounds like.  Yreka is not exactly big crime central.

When I was teaching in Happy Camp, I would take field trips to the Siskiyou Co. Courthouse to show the kids the mining displays that they had displayed in the lobby and that nugget was huge.
During the day they had a guard stationed in the area but the thieves struck during the night.
With the price of gold what it is now, it  doesn't surprise me someone took it.
