I don't know how normal it is for two large jacksmelt to be caught  this time of the year at Cap wharf in the time it took me to eat lunch, but it can't be a bad sign for the predator fish bite.

How far did you go out of the wharf? nearby red buoy? Jacksmelts taste good.

KC Tournament before last I caught a ton of kept by some beds but I released them. What's a good way ti cook em?
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

I'm guessing Tom caught them while standing on the wharf?

jacksmelt flesh is pretty white, I see people deep fry them whole.
I've never tried 'em, just used them as bait.

2 ways of cooking them - 1) Bake them, then apply limon juicy on top after baking. 2) Sasmi, dip them in soy sauce. This method require them fresh and healthy

No yak, Jack. My wife and I were playing tourist on our home turf because our house was being tented. We ate at the Wharf House at the end of the Capitola wharf.  After a  couple of minutes of looking at the menu, we looked at each other and wondered whether we were woozy or feeling an earthquake( about a 3), then realized all the crab pots and stuff hanging from the ceiling were all gently shaking, and it continued all the time we were in there and it was a very light surf day.  I might lose my appetite on a medium day.  Simple but good food. I do wonder how the wharf stays up.
They were some of the biggest jacksmelt I've seen.  I just don't know if they hang around all year.  I know sometimes you can't keep from catching them and other times they seem scarce.  I ate one last year to test it, it wasn't bad at all, something like a trout.
