With the the thread on the new Harley, it seems there a few riders amongst us.

I got a fish and ride in mind, come May-June time frame meet up at a predesignated location head up through Sonora and into the mountains Camp and fish up in the forestry lands. Plenty of camp sites up in that area.  Or head up to Markleeville, there are two state camp grounds, and a BPS Campground with a man made laked stocked with trout.  Not to mention a nice river flowing in the area that looks very troutable.

Concept, meet at predesignated areas (north bay, penisula, eastbay, fresno, and such.  ride as groups to one main hookup point (I am thinking Walmart in Sonora?) then ride up the mountains.  No pressure slow ride so Mooch and his scooter can keep up.  Granted bringing a kayak may require the use of a support vehicle.  All makes and models welcome.

Any takers?  Please respond, if there is interest I will take the lead on this, hell I am going to go anyway, this sounds too nice to pass up.  Also I am open to other places, this one happens to be a great ride with lots of camping and beutiful views.  Good road for all riding levels.

If you are rebuilding carbs, I am assumning it is Jappanese?  If so buy a new set of needles and seats when you rebuild it.  It will save you time and aggrevation.  the rubber in the needle wears out over time and gas exposure.  Seats also don't last forever.  I have a set of wire drill bits which are great for working through some of those smaller passages to get the funk and gunk out with.

If it is a CV type carb the diaphram can get hard and not respond the way they should, if that is the case replace it.  I have worked on a few carbs over the years.  Kehnin CV's are fairley easy,  Mikuni can get complicated depending to what level they are.  S&S are really easy, and I have never played with German or Italian Carbs but I would think they are not that different.

Sounds good but , May-June are still subject to rain/snow at the higher elevations ! I've had plenty of trips in late June that we woke up to a few inches of snow and with winter just starting it looks like we will have a long , late winter like we did last year .

Hey Kevin,

They are Keihnin CV.... I have taken them out before, it's just a bitch..... and I'd rather be fishing..... once the gas prices start going up, it will motivate me to get started on them....

Think it's just a bad float, couple with it being out of sync; but who knows, I ain't no bike mechanic..... i lick stamps for a living :smt044

G-whiz,  I have rebuilt quite a few 40's in my time (stock HD carb).  Very easy to modify once you can get to them.  There are plenty of aftermarket hop kits for those and they work on other models, Ural the Russian bikes now use the same carb, and I have seen them on some Kawi's as well.  Bad floats can be a pain, if you don't have the tool to adjust them, a cheap 6 inch ruler with the slide on it is a decent substitute (5-7 dollars at any hardware store.  I have a set of mercury sticks for sync, I will give you new in the box, never used.  I bought them for a bike I was working on, and the bike was in a shop which caught fire.  Never did get around to syncing them after that.  so they have set for 8 + years.  If you want it there yours, HD's have no need of sync tool.
