My boss is looking for a tandem yak for he and his wife to enjoy on lake Tahoe. Needs enough storage to hold cold beer on ice and a coffee cup holder for his wife (so no special tricked out fishing mods required :) ). Prime requirements are stability and great tracking. Also capable of decent speed - something they can comfortably cruise in and explore Tahoe. Pedals, rudder, etc all good if it helps. Cost is a secondary concern to joy riding requirements. Anybody have first hand experience with such "luxury yaks"?

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Ocean Kayak Malibu XL ....can't beat the room / comfort and stability. You can also move the seats around the boat so the kayak can be paddled solo. Lot's of deck space so you don't really need hatches installed - dry bags will do.

Tarpon 130 T by Wilderness Systems in another option.

Demo, demo, demo

Good info, Mooch. Excellent point about demo'ing.

On that note: where would folks suggest as demo outfits near Sunnyvale? Aquan sports is fairly close.

That might be the best suggestion for my boss - Malibu XL but stress a demo!

Aquan Sports has a boat house in San Mateo Lagoon. You can rent and demo kayaks there. I believe they now carry Wilderness Systems kayaks as well. It's just about a few miles North off  101 of the Main Store in San Carlos (across from REI)
