How is the trout fishing at Del Valle?  It's been years since I was there (on the bank).  Any spots better than others?

Apparently the east beach is where one should be but overall the lake has not been producing the last several of years.  This year has been better than last, but still nothing to write home about which is sad because it used to be fantastic!

Planter trout, planter catfish. hasn't been an influx of stripers for quite a while so the schoolies are gone infavor of fewer but larger stripers. Rain should pull the trout to the south end and the first narrows is usually a good spot.

The trout catch has gone down at Los Vaqueros as well since they started hooking a lot of striper (even before they drained the lake to accommodate the restoration.  Hogan used to be a good trout lake at one time as well, if I understand correctly.

You can get fishing reports and info on trout plants at http://www.ebparks.org/activities/fishing/anglersedge

This time of year, if the water is stained, soaking bait is more productive. For trolling, the dam area and narrows are worth a try. The quagga inspection is pretty thorough so make sure your yak is clean and dry. Trout fishing not what it used to be but the striper fishing is better. Stripers can be caught while targeting trout but you will catch more of them soaking chovies. I will be fishing the EB lakes a few times this winter. Usually get skunked because I don't soak bait but it keeps me in shape and I get to paddle with my dog. Will post in hookups. Seee you out there.  :smt006

Thanks Scott for the link and advice.  I would be happy to make the drive from Stockton to meet up with you on one of your trips to Del Valle if you don't mind the newbie company.  Nice fish!
