Vwool, what does it take to send a kid to camp?  I think sometimes it is harder for some of us to fathom how much it costs.  I know when I went to scout camp in 1977 I think the cost was $50.00. Should we make it a goal to sponsor a kid?

I will look into the cost, I have put in a call and will let you know what I find out. I know its a little more expensive then traditional camps, due to medication cost. They cover insulin and test trips while campers are at camp.

Done.  You ROCK Victor!

Jason you and the others who have donated are the ones that ROCK! The donations from all of you have almost reached 25% of my goal.

So I got the info that you were asking about Sqidder K

The cost campers are charged is a 1/3 of the cost that it cost the Diabetic Youth Foundation.

For the 8 day kids camp it cost the family $925

For a teen to go to the Ten day Teen Camp it cost 1,045.

The fundraiser helps the DYF to cover the other charges and to give Children Scholarships.

Thanks for all the help. Any amount helps, my brother gave $5.00 and I know that even too much for him. Big or small each doantion helps children and families who love with Diabetes.

Hi vwool,

I don't know if the goal deadline has passed but I put in anyway for such a great cause. My wife has had t1 diabetes for 13 years and I know that these events are awesome for the kids.

I also have a question for you since you're the first T1 diabetic/kayaker I've come across. Do you or have you ever used an insulin pump? My wife just went on hers and we're looking for some advice for how to handle the pump when we head out on the yaks. The pump has been quite the $$ investment due to poor insurance and it would be a shame to have it take a bath and die.

Any pro tips would be appreciated. Thanks for setting up a way to donate to a great cause!

Thanks for the donation. I will PM you next week when I get back from shelter cove on how I kayak with Type 1 Diabetes. I use an insulin pump, and take it with me on the water. Thank you again for the donation.
