Hi Guys:

I'm a newbie to this board as well as kayak fishing.  I don't yet have a yak, but all your fish pix has me licking my chops and I think I'll buy something in the next month or two.

Planned on going after some tasty rockfish and lings this year but was discouraged when I read somewhere about not being able to catch rockfish in '05 unless you're in super deep water b/c of kayak anglers being classified by the DFG as regular boat anglers.

Can anyone confirm?

I found a page on the DFG site that states something a bit different - a short season, but the depth requirements make them still accessible to kayak anglers:

Rockfishing around here is open in UNDER 120 of water, so from the beach out to 119.95.

Season opens in July, closes in November. If you want to make it last longer check out this thread.

When you are ready to go catch some let me know. I love rockfishing!

Thanks for clarifying.  Gotta get geared up ASAP!   Aside from rockfish, salmon season is round the corner and I saw that some folks did really well last year off Pacifica and Moss Landing!

Linda Mar was epic  last year :smt023

There were two HEEEUGE Stripers (30 # and a 20#) caught trolling by a kayaker...
.....Chuck caught his share of rockfish, Salmon and lost one big halibut....
....John / jdyak hooked up on a heeuge fish but never got to see what it was...broke off  :smt013 ....he and his brother Mike / Sturgy caught  15# salmon there as well (biggest I've seen). I believe Rich /granitedrive caught a 20# + salmon.....

Hope it will be a repeat again this year :smt003
