For flyline c bass, halibut, striper and rockfish the 196 or 270 would be good.

For c bass bottom fishing and big halis or lings  the 270 or 870 would be good.

These are the best rods you can buy for $80 and will last a lifetime. You can fish them over the recommended test also. I fish 25-30# on the 270. Glass rods are heavier in the hand so for jigging, the lighter rods are better. For c bass and salmon, the rod is usually in the rod holder so weight is less of an issue. Made in the
USA also.

For sturgeon, a sensitive tip and lighter rod is preferred so the 196 would be my choice. Works well for halis also.

For jig tossing SCAL style, they usually use big sticks, 8-10' and they are expensive.

Thanks for posting this. Can someone help with a couple questions? I've been thinking about a Trevala. How would the Seeker 196 compare? Weight comparison?

What do you guys think about the 6 ft 196? Shorter seems good for the kayak to me - would the 7 ft be better?

I have a Trevala for jigging and have used it for sturgeon too, it's definetly lighter weight than the Seeker glass rod which will make a difference during a long day of jigging for rockfish.  I can't say much other than that. I'm getting mine more for bait fishing where the weight won't be an issue.

I like the 7 over the 6, if a big fish decides to run around the yak in a quick move it's allot easier to lead the line around the bow with that extra foot.

Thanks for the info Dale. Do you expect the 196 Seeker will out-perform the Trevala for bait fishing? What're the advantages?

The seeker 196 is designed for casting anchovies and sardines for pelagics and will out cast the trevala.  The trevala is superior for verticle jigging. The glass rods have a more forgiving action which is ideal for fishing big game on light line.  They also take more punishment than graphite. The 870-7 is a great salmon trolling rod and also great for kelp cutting.

Good lookin out GB....I just finished xmas shopping for the fam and was able to squeek in a pair of 196's for myself......I can't wait to see the look on my face when I open them on christmas  :smt003

Fishwrapper, you really can't go wrong on this deal. Seeker makes some of, if not thee best, production rods on the market and the quality certainly is not lost on their lower priced models.  Regarding performance, we can probably go on for days discussing different aspects - expectations - pros/cons - alleged advantages etc but in the end it really is all personal preferrence.   E-Glass isn't "in fashion" but it works and has for a loooooooong time.  If you don't like it pm me and I'll take it off your hands  :smt001

I just want to say that I ordered one based on forum info and not wanting to pass on a deal.  I was looking to match it with my charter special,  I was at the Oakland chinatown this morning and decided to make a side trip to the Outdoor Pro shop just to get a look and feel of the 196 I ordered and I must say that Im all excited now. :smt003
