Work was brutal last week, so the wifey gave me the greenlight to go jump in the ocean for a few hours so I could let the water wash away the stress.

Paddled out with cnew83, and the spot I was hoping to hit up was covered by crashing breakers...no worries, off to plan b we go.

Viz was a hazy 15-20 with a lot of small jellies, better in some spots, worse in others....not as stellar as last week, but still plenty good to have a blast hunting!

 :smt004

Second fish of the day was a skinny Ling that I swam back to the yak to double check was legal. It was, so it got the knife to the brain.

 :smt003

Was working in 30-40 feet of water, and was finding plenty of real cool structure. Moved out a little bit deeper and hit 50 foot on my deepest dive. My deepest yet!

 :smt001

Spooked a FAT Calico, and it skeedaddled before I could squeeze a shot off!   :smt009 BEAUTIFUL fish though, and the first time I have ever seen one ever!! Video doesn't do the fish justice...it was solid and chunky with that gorgeous checkerboard pattern on the side.

 :smt007

Harvested a limit of healthy kelpies and one blue, and came home with batteries recharged and a smile on my face.

Here are a few pics and a short vid...forgot to charge the GoPro so it died halfway through. You can see the Calico at 1:30-1:40.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Music is Papa Mali's title track from his album "Do Your Thing".

Here is a pretty sick live version of the same song.

Damn Jim! Outstanding report and stringer full of fatties. Hunting in 40 feet with bumps to 50 :groupwave

You are diving in rarified air at 50 feet. Stoked for your day in the big blue.

It means uncommonly good. Not many people can freedive to 50 feet and it is notable
