Hey just receive an e-mail from a buddy saying Western Sport Shop in San Rafael is closing. Everything is being marked down from 20% to 70%. They are also marking down several Firearms..

I'm sure a lot of the  blame goes to Walmat type stores but ever since the new owner took over, its been a downward spiral. He's doesn't even fish or hunt. That's one of the reason's the Santa Rosa store closed.

WalMart rod/reel/tackle selection is not exactly the greatest; so I would think the owner would be more at fault for not promoting his business more actively.

That's a shame. I bet the internet gets a lot of the business. These days local brick and mortars really need to make customers want to shop there - offer an experience that better than sitting w/ your feet up on the couch. Too bad for the people losing jobs.

Confirmed, they are closing down which is a shame.   They have some 30% - 40% sales right now and in the next week or so will kick it up to 50% - 70% sales but selection will be more limited.   Looking at 30-days or so for the closing sale is what I heard.

I picked up some gear today, good stuff going quick though.

You really cant blame wal-mart. They havent got shit really. Online businesses and if you dont have an up and running website thats current and nicely laid out you are done. Ive bought things from San Rafael forever and its really sad. OPS has them put to shame anyway.

Bummer about WSS I've spent a few dollars at both stores.

it's hit and miss on the attutide at OPS they have their buddies that talk at the counter the whole time I'm stumbling around the store...  I dont expect horns and party hats , But a grunt and a finger point doesnt help in bring more money back the next time

You hit the nail on the head. Sometimes they can be downright rude. They are really the only game in town around here and they know it. Bring back Lyles!

I always get great customer service at OPS in R.P., but that's probably because I've been going there since '98.

So you're the buddy they're talkin to while everyone else is bumbling around the store? :)

Im to impulsive to buy tackle online.  I gotta be onsite picking stuff up sorting through lures and buying alot if stuff I had no intention on buying when I walked in the store.......surely I'm not the only one ;D
