Yolo By-Pass Hunt

My son will be coming up here to Isleton on Wednesday AM.  He has an interview to upgrade his Cal Fire rank with the main headquarters in Sacto on Thursday PM.  He is an avid bird hunter and wanted to give the Yolo By-Pass a shot for pheasant.  I have not been there before, but I still can hunt even if my dog can't.  Any info, cautions, tips, company,  would be welcome.  Most Likely would start off mid day Wed. but an early Thursday shoot might happen too.  Steel shot? or is anything legal?

A major portion of the bypass is type A wildlife area. Only Wed Sat Sun hunting. If you look at the maps on line you can see where the borders are. There may be a lot of other area there to hunt, but I don't know where. You can try Liberty Island. It is flooded from broken levees. It is on the south end of the Yolo bypass. You would need a boat or yak to access that area. I was near there the other day and heard a lot of shooting going on. No doubt at ducks or geese. The north end of the bypass by Woodland has a lot of birds, but seems to be a lot of private rice also. Sorry if I am not that much help, but I hope you get some good out of this. I hunted Mildred Island on opening day, and at the Yakhopper  striper tourney and shot a few ducks. It seems like a pretty neat place to hunt also. Again you need a boat. lots of places on the delta to duck hunt, but you always need a boat. As far as pheasant, if you find a good place keep it to yourself, or everyone will go there. If you want to send me the info though, I will keep it quiet.

Upon further consideration we will be going to Grizzly Island.  Have the wildlife passes and will be meeting him at Grizzly Island Rd. in Suisun at 12:30.  I will report if anything good happens.
