Granite Bay launch facility on Folsom Lake may work well.

At least two potential areas - the main launch ramp area (which has secondary good locations for kayak launching to stay away from the power boats). Plenty of parking. This would be slightly south of the main (big boat) launch ramps. There's a smaller (regular boat) ramp with a dock there and also an old paved road w/some trees that goes into the lake. I've used both for launching kayaks (mine has a trailer).

There is another place in the park (somewhat north) where (depending on water level at the time) there can be rows of flooded trees and fishy, more sheltered areas all around. It's at the end of a road w/a couple of satellite toilets. Parking might be an issue there. It would be a walk-in type kayak launch on the nearly level/grassy shore.

Interesting... this first launch area, does it have nearby bathrooms and do you think it might lend itself to better afternoon fishing?  and it is easy to find....?

  Thanks

Don,

I'm going to check out the Granite Bay launch with a keener eye toward what you may need. I'll try to take some photos soon as well.

Unfortunately, I use that launch facility for my sailing (vs fishing) trips and I'm hardly the person to talk to about afternoon fishing at Folsom Lake.

I would think that that time period would lean more toward bass vs trout, but some of the cold water species may still be available at depth during early June as well.

The Granite Bay launch is (at least) easy to find for directions etc. That part would be covered.

I'll get back with what I can find.

Karl

Danglin,

Here's the first launch area (2 films) for the Granite Bay Launch Facility at Folsom Lake.

Sorry for the crack in my truck windshield and the rather crude film (hard to shift, drive, film and talk at same time). This is the area where I launch my kayak from and the more developed adjacent launch next to it (I'll call it Area 1). I have other film for Granite Beach (main picnic and grills, swimming, snack bar etc. for the park) and also film on another launch site called Oak Beach/Oak Point (Area 2). I'll post these two films at a later time. Additionally, I took more film of a third possible launching site called Doton's Point (Area 3). This third area looked fishy but it was also quite steep for launching.

Anyway, here's the first two films

Thank You for taking the videos.  Have you or anyone else launched or know any details for Beals Point off Auburn Folsom Rd and Oak Hill Drive.  When I put in the coordinates N 38° 43.146 W 121° 10.140 ( )for Google Satellite and zoom in you can see how close the water is to shore near what looks like two picnic tables with top cover to the east north east.  I just don't know what the water would look like in this area for June or how fishing would be near this.

That depends on how much water is being let out. In the last two years I recall having to walk no more than 70 feet from the covered picnic to the water. Launching at Beals Point is relatively easy.

Last time there I knocked them dead on a fly, Wooly Bugger. Was a fun little lake for me. Both Bass, Perch and I believe Crappie.

Here's the Granite Beach area of Folsom Lake SRA. This is what appears to be the centralized picnic/grills/snack bar and swimming area for the park.

The other films are (Oak Beach/Oak Point - area 2). I really like this spot. Looked like a more level (relative) type launch. Hopefully, someone here has fished these areas and can weigh in with an opinion. Looks bassy while the first location (area 1) appears more like main lake trout/salmon type water.

Anyway, the tapes are pretty bad! I did enjoy driving around though and these spots were all new to me and a good reference for my future fishing. Folsom Lake is just too close to where I live (would rather drive to Berry!) and I really know very little about the actual rate of success. I think it's better than what I'm giving it credit for...

So take a look at these and don't feel obligated at all. The only thing that took much time was the uploading of the videos. It gave me an excuse to checkout some spots close by my house anyway.

If you need a volunteer for events close to Sac let me know. I can drive, haul kayaks, flip burgers - whatever. I can't think of a more deserving group of people to help and we appreciate all your efforts.

Cheers.

I was at Lafayette Res this am.  I talked to the ranger supervisor Rodney Tripp, ph 510 287 2022, email rtripp@ebmud.com  and explained to him about HOW.  He
seemed very interested in getting an event there.

Like other public venues, there will be some hurdles to jump, but he had a couple of ideas.  On the north east side there are six seven table on a saddle.  Bus access is close and walking distance short.
There is a road down to a boat ramp that would fit our loading and unloading needs.

I took some pictures.

Hey, that looks pretty sweet Ray. What kind of fishing do they have?

I don't think Folsom in June is the best idea for such an event.  If the weather is warm, then the lake will be a zoo. There is a launch with picnic area and facilities within the 5mph speed limit zone near skunk hollow (South Fork arm).  I have fished it before in June and caught trout, catfish, smb, lmb and spots.  The fishing quality at this spot really depends on the lake elevation.
