"Kayaks can" is an apt caption. The editors at WON have noted the effectiveness and rising popularity of the sport. They are reaching out to kayak anglers, and plan to give the sport a higher profile in the publication. I was tabbed to be WON's first kayak fishing editor / columnist.

Most of my features / columns will run in both the north and south editions. Rather than take this thread off topic, I'll continue this discussion in a new post. I'd like to hear what you would like to see covered.

What sort of kayak fishing coverage would you like to see in the northern edition of WON?

I have one regular feature / column per month. Those slots have to be spread between SoCal, NorCal, Baja, and so on. It's not much, but it is more regular coverage than the sport has received in WON to this point.

I plan on a Cen/NorCal kayak rockfish article for July, and a kayak salmon article for next year (subject to fisheries issues...).

For upcoming techniques articles (ie surf transitions), I will strive to add the northern perspective through quotes from your local experts. I hope you'll trust me to accurately share your point of view.

WON will probably print stories on your larger events as long as the tournament organizers can help them out. WON goes to press Monday morning. Tournament officials should do everything they can to send a report and photos in no later than Sunday morning. I'll ask WON editor Pat McDonell how he'd prefer those to be routed. For now, if you send your tournament announcements and reports to me I'll do what I can to see they aren't lost on the way to Pat.

Please call or email me any time to share news, story ideas, reports of remarkable catches, and photos. Also, I'm sensitive to the need to keep some things secret. For an example, look at my abalone story starring Scwafish, his son Chris, and buddy Ron. We dove "somewhere along the Sonoma / Mendocino county coastline."
