I was wondering if anybody could tell me, if it's possible, how to make a waypoint using lat/long numbers.  I have some numbers I want to insert but can't figure it out...

Thanks,
L

I don't think so dude. If you figure it out, let me know. I'll bet there is some kind of software thing you can do to the gps, or mapping upgrade, but that would take some real understanding of these electronic boxes..........which I don't have.    On a side note, if anyone knows how to find fish with a fish finder, please clue me in.
If you want to thank a Vet, be a person worth fighting for.

Download manual available nline-google it.  This should help:

Delete a waypoint: From the Waypoints submenu, select Delete, and press the
RIGHT Cursor key to display the saved waypoints list. Select the waypoint you
want to delete, then press the RIGHT Cursor key. You will be asked to confirm
deletion before the waypoint is permanently deleted.
Program or Edit the waypoint fields: Use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to
move from field to field, and the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change values
once you are in a field.
In the Waypoint Name, Latitude, and Longitude fields, press the UP and
DOWN Cursor keys to change the letter or number. All upper and lower case
letters are available, as well as digits 0-9 and some punctuation characters.
In the Waypoint Icon field, press the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change
the icon used to represent the waypoint on the Combo and Chart Views. You
can exit these fields with the LEFT and RIGHT Cursor keys or by pressing the
EXIT key.

Similar to scallen's advice, I could only find a manual for the 300 series not specificall the 385, but they should be similar, I copied the text from the manual but there is a pic as well that helps in the online version of the manual,

To view the Waypoints Submenu:
1. Highlight Waypoints on the Navigation main menu.
2. Use the RIGHT 4-WAY Cursor Control keys to view the Waypoints submenu.
The Waypoints Submenu contains the following menu choices:

(I only included the create function cause that's the one you want,)

Create allows you to create a new waypoint and edit it immediately. The current boat
position will be used as the default, but you can set the coordinates to any valid position.
The Icon used to represent the waypoint in the Chart and Combo Views can also be
changed.

You could also just edit any existing waypoint with new lat and lon numbers, that'd probably be the easiest.

One of my wintertime projects wil be to transfer my primary waypoints from my old handheld to my newer gps.

I believe I may be able to do so via download/upload, but I'm afraid I might need a PC, and I'm a MAC guy.  Will post on the process during rainy season.

you aren't alone!
I've had good success with not having one, and letting my fishing partners use them instead, then I just fish around them.
Its been working well all season!

Thats pretty funny; Plus is saves you a couple hundred bucks and gives someting to brag about by catching fish without the aid of a finder.

How do you power up your sonar when it's not in your kayak...?  I'm thinking an extra power cord would be necessary to connect to head then you can connect to a pc,  I think.

Yes, that's right. Depending on how you route your wiring, a waterproof power plug in line on your power leads can enable you to power up off the yak, just buy an extra matching plug.  That can make taking the unit on and off the yak easier as well.   Or, do the work with the unit mounted on the yak, garage time is always a valuable winter commodity (at least in my house).
