Holy crap!  I love it when the forecast goes from shitty to unbelievable!!!  Here's the latest:

.SAT...NW WIND 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT OR LESS. NW SWELL 3 TO 5 FT AT 11 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG IN THE MORNING.

I wrote the other day that "Epic" conditions weren't probable - I'd edited after first writing "not going to happen" - glad I changed it!  I'm taken aback that they have gone from 10 foot swells to 3-5.  If this materializes we are in for a nice ocean - amen!   and Wow!  :smt001

We had a great turnout - probably half the tournament field - at the safety meeting and orientation at Pacific Outfitters.  Then about 15 of us hit up Babes Pizza in Cutten for pitchers and good BS session through 9ish...  Good Times seeing old buddies, meeting a few new friends, and the usual best vibe that accompanies NCKA get togethers.  Looking forward to tomorrow - I'll try to keep you posted by i-phone...   :smt001

The New Nantucket Sleigh Ride

The most extreme kayak angler may be Chicago futures and options trader Dave Lamoureux, who paddles a modified 12-foot-long recreational kayak off the tip of Cape Cod in pursuit of bluefin tuna. He’s had strikes powerful enough to tow him at 15 mph—a contemporary variation of a whale pulling a whaling boat in what Herman Melville described as a Nantucket sleigh ride. In November Lamoureux reeled in his biggest catch to date—a 157-pound bluefin (above). “Tuna are so big and fast,” he says, “the initial hit is extremely violent. I’ve had my kayak cracked.”

Special thanks to everyone that made time to participated in the first annual Trinidad Rockfish Wars! I was absolutely blown away with the success of this tournament. Thank you to everyone who is a part of Pacific Outfitters, all their vendors for stepping up to the plate and kicking down some great prizes. Lost Coast Kayak Anglers, you guys came and represented well. Thanks to everyone at NCKA for helping us pump up our tournament. Your excitement in the TRW1 forum really helped out a great deal. Next year we will be branching out to other Angler sites in central California, all over Orgeon and Washington. We realized that anglers are willing to drive 8+ hours to visit beautiful Humboldt and fish our epic coastline. We had a fantastic turnout for our first event and next year it should be even that much bigger. I'm really glad everyone liked the format. It was a little bit of a gamble because it's different from your usual tournaments, but I think it made it a lot of fun.

Don't forget, if anyone has a great picture or illustration they would like to email me for the event poster for next year, I will pay your entry fee and hook you up with a gift card for Pacific Outfitters.

Thanks again Anglers and see you at GS6
