I want to take my daughter out fishing with me in the salt, but somewhere protected.  I've heard of people fishing in Bodega harbor, but don't know much about it,  thinking maybe a chance for a halibut!  Has anybody fished it?  Any recomendations?  Mainly want to just float around and introduce her to what I do, but to catch a fish would make it really exciting for her.  Thanks,

L

starting next week, drop some crab traps, and then fish near the jetty walls, usually can get some assorted rock fish,  then go back and pull the traps, dungenous and rockfish, that should be a good trip for you and your daughter, flat fish are rare there, cameron

There are plenty of Leopard Sharks in the Harbor and Perch around the docks, there are Halibut in there but they are usally in the channnel which can be dicy with all the boats but I have seen a few caught along the edges by the Coastie Station and Camaron is right they are a rare catch.

Not set up for crabbing yet!!! but that plan sounds interesting.  I'll probably fish around the jettis (rockfish) and maybe the channel if the boat traffic is light (halibut).

 The advice was greatly appreciated.

If you just want to catch anything, there's almost always big jacksmelt in the harbor, and sometimes there's good numbers of mackerel too.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

That sounds fun,  I've never targeted jacksmelt.  Maybe a sabiki rig!  Yeah just catching anything would be fun.

Cheers
