Hey all,

When does the kayak fishing season end for the Monterey Bay area and when does the Ling season close for divers I have gotten mixed answers. Please help

Not that I don't have the answer (or can't get it) but personally I think it is better if you read and understand the regulations rather then going off of what other people say. It is better to say to a DFG warden: "I read the reg this way" rather then "a friend of a friend told me I could do it."

If you have any questions concerning the way something is worded that affects how you fish I would bring it up to a DFG official and note who in the department told you what and when.

For example I know my striper regs forward and backward but before every trip I check the regs again to make sure I am doing everything on the up and up. Maybe I am OCD but fat fines or jail time is not worth it by going off what someone else says, or not read and understand the regs personally.

I also carry a copy of my regs with me to show any mis-informed person what it says.

You can shoot Lings and Rockfish (rcg) year round.

For Monterey, hook and line on kayak rcg/lings ends 12/31:
