Hey Guys,
I am new to the site and a new kayak fisherman. I have fished most of life and love it,,,but the kayak has given me a whole new level of excitement.
My question for you is about American river salmon. I have checked all the past forums and read all of the great tips that have been posted on fishing the American for Salmon, but I havent seen any reports for the northern part of the river,,say from Sailors bar downtream. Has anyone fished up there and if so what is to be expected, as far as the type of fishing,,trolling, drifting roe or beads or what???  I have never fished the American from a Kayak,,but have fished from the bank all up and down the river, so I am very farmiliar with different spots. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance Griff.

WTTM (Welcome To The Madness)-
The reports are there except they are typically in the member only section which you will need a certain number of posts first to be able to view them. Also a lot of the upper section of the AR posts us Sac guys do not specifically call out certain specific sections instead just give the general area. If you have never paddled or fished the river from a kayak before be very carefully as the upper AR can be very unforgiving with the currents. I would not recommend just jumping on the kayak and getting on the river with all your fishing gear. Get use to the kayak first maybe Folsom or Natomas then explore paddling and the currents of the river. Don’t try anchoring up until you mastered the above because it can go from good to bad in a matter of seconds.

As far as the fishing technique for Salmon kwikfish13 sardine wrapped flatlining or weighted, spinners Mepps #5 -Flying C’s ETC, drifting roe both bobber or weighted depending on if you drifting or on anchor.

See you on the water.

Thanks for the info,,
I have been on the river several times and have been out fishing in the Delta about four times since I have bought my new kayak as well as several lakes around,,,but I am deffinately a newbie to this. I take all advice seriously, and appreciate the warnings.
I don't expect any specific spots and was just looking for some general advice before I decide where to start my first fishing trip out there.
Thanks again, Griff

Post a hookup before you go.  There are lots of Howe ave regulars who generally like to give advice in person rather than on the forum.  The fishing has slowed down quite a bit, but there are still fish in the system.  Good luck!
