I'm thinking of doing the bufadora trip w/ Spike.  Has anyone been there?

I used to go there, but never really to fish did some free driving. there are some  great kelp beds! big dive spot. I read some reports from kayak4fish.com (la jolla kayak fishing site). I have always to fish that spot I herd there is great calico, white sea bass, yellowtai. should be a great trip.

since 1992 i always made a trip or two a year down to the bufadora and Dale still has a dive shack there on the bluff. he has gear if anyone needs to rent and you can always camp or stay in his place for accomodations. i would rent one of his pangas for a day to fish from or to dive from. his panguero would take us around the tip of punta banda and drop us off at the outer kelp beds where we would see all types of fish. mainly big calicos and sheephead but if you are lucky you can get nice yellowtail and white seabass casting off the tip.

the water is butt cold still because of deep water currents and the place is more fished out tham other places because people still use gill nets. i know they said they banned them and all but when i dove there they were still placing them around the point and they were way long. underwater there are reefs that are complete deserts and nothing lives on em. if you take a panga out of bufadora and round the point to three sisters you can fish for nice bass.

within the cove at the bufadora i have seen calicos, sheephead and one black sea bass. just outside people have caught yellowtail. best bet is to go with the pangas as motherships. they can put you on fish.

as of this year i decided to start going further south and to different places. bufadora is getting more people visiting and mainly scuba divers. i think if you drive a little further south you can find some nice fishing grounds.

if you want to fish the punta banda / bufadora area go to vonnys fleet and ask for beto to take you out. that panguero who works for ivan makes his own lures and catches fish daily. he knows where to let the panga drift and where not to fish. also you can probably hire him to mothership your kayak out.

lots of nice rocky areas, coves tucked away and hidden, and lots of kelp forests. great for snorkeling and spearing too. water gets deep fast anywhere around the tip of punta banda. i spent part of one day spearing large schooling perch for the kids who were fishing from the rocks near three sisters. the local kids bring their sticks with hooks baited with squid and they fish all day for reef fish. wish i could do that on a regular basis :smt004

if you need a house to rent i can hook you up with an acquaintance with one near puerto nuevo. 100.00  night. enough for about 8-10 people. its about an hour drive from bufadora and in a quiet little town. right on the water with its own cantina .
