Well the "madness" probably came from the fact that no fish made it onto a yak, but checking out new is always a blast no matter what, especially when you've got sledge there to keep you company... :smt044

So I arrived around 330 to find sledge already situated and ready to get otw. We rigged upp some poles and put in at the boat ramp, paddled a little ways into the channel. After an hour or so it started to get dark and we both started to get hungry.  Back at camp we cooked up some chili dogs with sharp white cheddar, once we had some food in our stomach it was time to sleep.

Otw at 630 we trolled some of the insufficient minnows that I brought(this was a learning expierience for me, now I know "go jumbo or go home") all the way to barn cove makin a few casts for smallies on the way without a nibble. We beached in barn cove and commenced with brunch, lochs and bagels baby mhmmmmm

After brunch we started trolling toward the channel, about half way their we ran into Hydrospider on his paddle board. So after a short chat hydro offered us some worthy agents which was awesome thanks for those man. Sledge and I rigged up the jumbo minnows and tossed a couple in my bait tank, we said our goodbyes to hydro and went our seperate ways.

We trolled about a quarter mile then sledge had an idea after sing the paddle board. "the guy that sold me this revo sais he stand on his and fish" said sledge. So natuarally I whipped out my camera, he took any gearthat wasn't srapped down on shore and hopped on In shallow water for safety. All was well for a few minutes the got carried away and lost his balance hahaha... Pics will be up later I have to load them on my computer.

After sledge took a dip in the water we trolled into the channel where I had a nice bite that I believe was a smallie but he made it back into his bush and took my agent with him. I fished for about another hour and headed home. Sledge was still fishin and probably is now too. A few others were supposed to show to fish with him.

All in all no fish does not mean no fun,  sledge is an entertainer in his own way whether he knows it or not.  Mark my words, lake Mendocino has not seen the last of sandbag.....

Man I grew up on this lake...and Joe O2b rolled in after I quit at dark had some dinner and was ready to call it a day...off we go again till 11pm no love :smt009  But it was great meeting up with old/new friends Hydrospider one fishy dude...thanks so much for the minnows the last one made it back alive to spawn and make more bait for a depleted one... :smt009

When O2b rolls in I'm like who's this...he says "I know u but you don't know me" Do now bro and it was FUN fishing with you not catching!!!

I still love lake mendo but with 3 days fishing it and no fish reminds me of ARW last yr...3 days and not a bump...but just peddling around checking out the views brought me back to the 60's with my grandfather...now that was one fishy dude :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  Met a lady that was trying her new little Hobie out for the first time gave her some pointers and she was so excited to go check out NCKA and get tips on kayaking told her about the HOW event and gave her nov 5th as the day to show up @ Doran...well she seemed like she knew what she was doing she will figure it out her name was Lori, had another couple come up and ask about my yak...they also showed interest about showing up for the HOW event and just to be able to find a site about "kayaking" :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  and I did warn them that "I'm not your typical NCKAer" :smt005

Awesome times, with great peeps...See ya all's @ Tiki or some where down south headed that way "Pebble Beach"  in a few minutes BigJim look out brother  and fellow crew!!!  :smt044 :smt044 :smt044  fair warning :smt005

Not to threadjack, but have they stopped planting stripers?  I suppose SBD would be the one to ask as he was on the CSBA board for awhile and might still be, not sure.  It seems like the last couple of years, and this weekend too, that the lake has completely shut down.  I dunno, maybe it's the way the reports are edited so as to keep the traffic down but it just seems like it isn't what it used to be.

Thoughts, or maybe I should start my own thread?

Thanks for the report Sandbag and Sledge. I'm pretty sure Mendo hasn't been stocked with stripers for the last couple of years and CSBA is no more. There's still some in there.....though not like before. jim

Thanks for the report. Another place I was fortunate enough to experience the "Good ole Days" at not too long ago. 7 and 8 striper days are probably no more.

thread jack away my brother, Yes the lake is not what it used to be...talking with a PBer sat morn...there's plans on stocking the lake with triploid "strippers" and they can't find anyone to do so and the word is there going to introduce trout...don't know how that will play out...

Apparently since Sean took over water management the water has not been drained :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Yup, and you never had to measure 'em cause they were mostly 28 to 30 inchers.
