di-electric grease.... OK I went to two places (Home Depot, Harbor Freight Tools) to find di-electric grease and they stared at me like I was crazy.   :smt011    Where can I walk in and buy that stuff?   :smt102

-- I did not make it out fishing today.  I was exhausted.  Yesterday was a brutal 19 hour day.  (Flew up early to Sacramento for a meeting all day, flew back, landed at 7 pm, and then played a gig at Rusty's Surf Ranch. Got home at 1 am.)  I was toast today, got up really late, so I did not get the kayak out .. instead I tried to find di-electric grease ... and failed!   :smt005

ps -- Hey Daniel! -- good to hear from you ... may be coming to the Bay area in late Nov.  Will try to hookup.    :smt003

Dave, I'll be looking forward to our next hookup :) In regards to di-electric grease, it is your best bet to find it at an auto parts store. However, some of the employees there may give you the same look as they did to me lol!

Here is a photo of what the package should look like:

I've lost 2 portable FF's due to corrosion. The grease is almost as important as the battery!
Install looks good!

Pep Boys had the grease.  I'm headed out this afternoon for a few brief hours at Cabrillo on the inside.  I don't think there's much to see where I go but it's close and will give me a good look at using the new ff ... will report tonight.   :smt001

Dave, I have the same bat. pack on my Outback and I don't pull it to transport upside down in my truck, I only pop the batts for charging, it has been fine for 1 1/2 years. Yes on the grease though to protect the connection. Good luck.

I took it out for a test run this afternoon and it worked like a champ!   I really wanted to try it out over at King Harbor but the day almost got away from me so I went close to home at Cabrillo Beach, on the inside instead (10 minutes from my house).

I got OTW at 5 pm and fished until 7 pm.  I mostly was playing with the FF ... and it worked great, I love where it is installed.  I have to figure out what I'm looking at.    Here's a shot as I'm leaving the boat ramp/launch area where the water is not that deep.

I worried a bit about the wind and waves, it did splash the screen, but following the advice of all I "greased up the connectors" liberally.  Then when I got out of the water I took the battery pack out first.  Then dried off the screen before I disconnected it .. and kept everything relatively dry .. actually it stayed quite dry.    I did make one little change on the install before I went out.  I used a cable tie to put a d-ring clip on the mast on the inside and it makes for a much easier/ faster disconnect of the battery pack and I managed to get it up even higher on the mast.

Meanwhile I got this great picture of the LA Fireboat .. (Got a bunch of pix, but this one is the best).

Oh yeah, I caught fish too! -- two lizard fish (released) and one short halibut (see below) also released.

I can't wait to try this out over at King Harbor and try to find the canyon off the Redondo Pier.   I'm one happy camper.   Thanks to everyone for the tips and encouragement.   Guess  I'm gonna have to buy some NCKA swag now.
