The most scared I've ever been in my life was when two whales breached a half mile behind me.  Thought the airforce was dropping bombs on me.  Thank God they were moving away from me.

2 yrs ago at BeanHollow.....this almost happened. We were only 75ft away when the baitfish started jumping and it sounded like hard rain, we both heard it, turned to see what it was, and that's when it came up just like the pic......all i could do was watch in awe, as it sank straight back into the water. Like a building sinking in a straight up and down position.....then i got scared wondering where it was gonna pop-up next.

A couple years ago Domenic and I were enjoying a really beautiful, FAC day at the Cove.  We were 1.5 miles out, near the Whistle buoy, and you couldn't hear any shorebreak or breeze - just a spectacularly calm day.  Dom noticed a sound in the far distance that we thought may be gunfire.  Minutes later we zoomed in on something about 2-3 miles (or more?...) to the south - it was a huge whale breaching way up and landing parallel to the water with a thunderous clap!  Wow!  That was so cool.  Remembering sharing that with my good bro is truly a special memory.   :smt001

Happened to me at Bh once, too...  A small one, (which was still 30 or 40 feet long) was feeding near shore.  I thought, "How cool!" and paddled over to where it had breached, but upon reaching the area I suddenly freaked and started paddling away, imagining a scene like the pic above.  I watched it for about a half hour from a short distance away, and at one point I could see it, plus a pod of dolphins with seals mixed in the flock.  One of those days when the who ocean seems bursting with life.
