I have a 30LB Minkota trolling motor and need a battery for it.  What should I get, and what kind of charger do I need?  Will my SLA charger work for it, or do I need more like a car battery charger?  Want to do a few trips to Loch Lomond before they close for the year with Quinn and maybe my niece and nephew bluegill fishing  :smt002

I can't wait to see the pics. Which MK did you get and how are you mounting it?

AGM battery, optima blue top or braille? I plan on using a car battery charger that I've had for some time and see how that works.

That's where the 2nd one comes into play.  :smt002

How do you plan on using it and for how long? That would help in determining the size of the battery.

I guess if you add a third and a couple solar panels, trickle charger, inverter for tv, gotta have satelite to I would imagine   :smt002

I suppose you could go AGM, gel....pair of 6 volt golf cart batteries in series are all the rage right now too but it seems like overkill for a trolling motor battery you're gonna use a couple times a year.  I have about a 4 year old delco deep cycle that I neither maintain nor regularly charge. I fish it about 4-6 times a year on the delta as a primary power source for a 65lb thrust minn kota.  I generally stick it on a crappy wal-mart battery charger the night before then fish it all day and forget about it till I need it again.  I may or may not have added distilled water to it at one point but I don't really remember.   I like things simple, simple task simple solution.  :smt003

Hey Al,  My recommendation would be a marine battery, Costco has them, 115AH last, one I got was around $68?(+/- ) you should take up Darius's offer!
When I used to use my boat at the loch, I had a minn kota 55 and 2 of the 115ah batteries (There big sob's group 27) and I could travel up and down the lake pretty much all day. I'd deplete one battery, but had the second to get back to dock with.
