Howdy from SoCal ...   :smt006  This is not a thrilling report, just a report about a new spot for me.

This was going to be a Cabrillo report but when I got there this afternoon the Cabrillo Beach parking lot was full and they were turning people away.  That's a huge parking lot! Lots of folks trying to beat the heat.  So I decided to drive over to King Harbor and try it out for the first time. (about 30 minutes away)  It's quite nice over there.  $4.00 to park, and an easy launch off a small floating dock.

It got OTW at 5:00 and fished until sundown.  I caught (and released) one small calico bass on a white scampi with a "fish strip" scent on it.  I caught it on the inside of the harbor near the sea wall in about 8 ft of water.  I was a bit tentative about going outside the harbor, but ventured as far as the red bell buoy.  The swell was up a bit.  There was a LOT of bait and I caught (and released) one greenback pacific mackerel on the troll.  (Same white scampi.)

I talked to a "regular" who was headed out to fish all night in his kayak.  (rigged with light).  He was going for WSB and was going to head to Pt. Vicente.   He told me about the artificial reef and the culmination of the canyon ... and now I *MUST* install this fishfinder my wife gave me.  So next time I want to go fishing, instead I'm going to install the fish finder.

And I need to get that VHF radio.

I'm kind of glad that the lot was full at Cabrillo.  It made me venture over to King Harbor.

Here's a few pix of King Harbor and the launch site.

Picture below is looking south, out the harbor entrance towards Palos Verdes.

I had a good time ... and I needed it!  :smt005

Mack, fresh from the sea and onto the BBQ is surprisingly good,

@ Daniel - hope to see you here soon.  I think I will hit Redondo more often ... it's very close to the little church where I'm the organist/music director.  I could head there after church on Sundays I think.    I want to try to fish "Redondo Canyon" and the artificial reef I've been told about.  Need the ff at least to get those nailed and maybe a gps.... and certainly a "buddy" (and yes VHF radio ... !!)
