Good one, Mooch.  I don't expect my flattie to be the season champ but golly I was shocked to not be the leader for even a full 24 hours!

I think you got a good shot at being the length leader.

how long was alex's halibut?  I only know the lbs.

john guinea pig had a 39"er. longest I know of last year from the yak in nor cal.

I wonder if they are bigger in so cal or we just haven't found our 48lbers?

That one pic on coastside was a 40 something lber, caught off 5 mile beach last september.

Some people think that fishermen celebrate April 1st everyday.

i think this year we will see a go halibut year, sounds like they are in and early, not only that they area also shallower earlier in the year than normal. people have landed some biggies around monterey in fairly shallow waters. i think that maybe we'll have another weird water year.

this weekend i will go do some diving and see what i can spot down there . i'll work the shallows up to about 60 feet max freediving.

let's hope we get a calm day for once and swells look good thus far for the weekend.

i know the flatties are out and about, i'll be sure to check between channels and the edges of reefs and dropoffs.

can't wait to see one somewhere.
