For the sailing fans - I thought you might like seeing the boat with a bit more speed/splash. Folsom Lake was kind to me the other day and puffed out some nice wind at the close of a Friday afternoon.

Haven't fished much lately. Did catch a nice smallmouth while casting shad raps on a slab rock bank at the Berry the other day. Had another sailor along (with an AI) and he was more into exploring the big lake than fishing.

Cheers - Karl

How fast do you think you were going Karl? I want one too badly but I'll have to wait to spend that kind of money on it.

It's really hard to tell the speed on these things. I would guess I was doing maybe 9 to 11 mph. There was a boat traffic "ground swell" thing going on and it definitely slowed me down with a bumpier ride.

Distance wise though, on this video it "felt" like I had covered close to a mile in the 3 plus minutes of video here and that would put my speed even higher still.

The best speed is when you get the first rush of wind on a flat water surface or a narrow body of water/high wind situation without the big waves.

I went most of the summer running the rig in pure kayak mode, so it was fun to get out and feel the spray/wind again.

Jedmo, this rig does everything I need. It's the real deal.

Looks like lots of fun.  Any chance it can flip over if the wind too strong?  Thanks for the video Karl.

Hi Sonny,

Yes, they can flip over under the right circumstance.

I would be a good candidate for an open water yard sail because a/ I'm running trampolines and b/ I'm still hung up on going at it with full sail.

I came close to dumping it once but I think I've learned my lesson from that experience.

Honestly, if you just cut (reef in) the sail and avoid using the tramps in high winds you should be fine. It's those big (30+ mph) side wind gusts that get you in trouble.

The wind velocity in that video was a piece of cake. I had full sail/tramps out. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. It gets interesting when you add another 10 mph to those winds. Then, you need to reef in the sail some and prepare to lean on the high side tramp to keep things pointed in the right direction.  These boats can go wicked fast with half or less sail deployed when the wind starts running 25 to 35 mph. Totally wet ride. Once speeds get much higher, I don't think you would want any sail out. You would probably just peddle and pray and give thanks to the rig being so seaworthy and having such a low wind profile.

Hopefully, the other AI crew can share some war stories.

Going Fishing?
Winds from the south, hook in
    the mouth.
Wind from the east, bite the least.
Wind from the north, further off.
Wind from the west, bite the

You guys are gonna love the AI.

A lot of clams - but it's like getting the benefit/advantage of 3 boats. And all the configurations do come in handy.

Just wish I lived closer to the salt like you guys  :smt010
