The weather was great and I was planning on fishing rockfish. I launched without any problem and not very far from the shore started testing a Sibiki rig. I started geting it with Mackerels non stops ... I used them as bait for bottom fishing and nothing happend.

All together I had a blast: I grew up in Europe and I love non-game fish. So catching so many M. was very fun. Yet I was wondering if the folks here in US eat M.?
I also was wondering if you use them as baits?

Cheers,

Macks are great ling and halibut bait. Look for reefs or sand and drift them over it.  Where there is bait, there is bigger fish.

I've been known to eat a few Macks but mostly use them for bait.  On days where I cant catch any bigger fish I'll save as many as I can for my dad, he loves um!   :smt001

Mackerel make killer BBQ fare. Great sashimi, too, but be sure they are parasite-free!
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

WTG on the non stop action catching mackerels zelda. And yeah, lots of people
eats macks. I personally like them deep fried after marinating the fish in soy sauce
lemon, and garlic. Try it out bro, it's good.

mackerel are great to keep for bait and also to use for crab season cut up into chunks. crab love them a lot.

people here love eating them and you can marinade it to make saba.

anytime i get mackerel i bag it up and freeze them.

last month in santa cruz fishing off the inflatable i caught a few mackerel and tossed one on a hook down into about 60 feet and immediately it got hammered. too bad i didnt have a stinger setup with 2 hooks because the teeth marks raked the fish from middle to tail!

im heading to carmel tomorrow to do video and spear so i hope to sabiki some up when i am taking a break.

where in europe you from?
