Started my day yesterday on a hunt for bait. Stopped at the dive shop in Petaluma first, where they had already mushy, turning black ghostshrimp for $6 a dozen. Told the guy "No Thanks" and headed over to Leonard's across from Black Point. $6:50 a dozen here, but at least they looked a little livelier. They were still white, though, and not very active. Lesson learned - buying ghostshrimp sucks. That was the first time I ever had to buy some. Next time I'll pump my own at all costs...lol. Fresh shrimp are pink and they stay lively all day. The store bought ones were dead in a few hours.

Anyway, I got to Bullhead flats around 8:30AM. As I was setting up Troy (Gotbaitgofish) pulled up. We got set-up and he headed towards Rat Rock and I paddled toward the Honey Hole, stopping about 3/4 mile southwest of it. The weather was beautiful and the water was FLAT. We couldn't have asked for better conditions. Unfortunately the fish weren't very cooperative. At my first stop I landed two 14" flounder. One on the lame shrimp and one on 'chovy. I heard some hootin' and hollerin' coming from boats closer to the Honey Hole so I paddled out a little further. At this spot I landed another 15" flounder and that was it.

All fish released. If I would've known I would end up with three decent flounder I might've kept them, but oh well. Pretty ho-hum day considering flounder fight about as well as a five ounce pyramid sinker.

Called it a day around 3:00PM and paddled in to the mud hole. Luckily Troy was landing at the same time. We were able to land on the rocks just underneath the point where the people fish from shore. From there we man-handled our yaks up over the rocks and back to the parking lot.

Slow day, but awesome weather/conditions and good to see Troy again.

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...
