I went fishing with HobieBlue last week and he showed me the set up for punchin' weed mats in the delta. While we never got a bite doing it. I was inspired by the rig for fishing rockfish in heavy kelp. Now maybe I am not all that novel and there is a better set up out there that I have no clue about. But here is what I am calling the....

"Delta King (HobieBlue) Kelp Bomb"

Here is the recipe:

2 oz sliding sinker that I powder coated white and added some eyes
bass skirt in this case white and chartreuse (gives it some additional motion)
5/0 EWG (bass) worm hook
7" magnum zoom fluke in silver/white. (I also have a baby bass color).

I have no clue if it will work but with that sinker pinned down to the hook its gonna be hard to hang up in kelp. Should be fun inside the cove at Albion and/or punching the kelp in santa cruz. Also could do wonders casting into shore and bouncing it back out for butts or stripers.

Looks very good to me; I'd fish it hard. Wouldn't mind learning how to make 'em in different color patterns; seems one could turnout some match the hatch kinda swimbaits. Nice job.

That looks like a cool set-up...might even try it on the delta!  Let me know if it works in the kelp.

Good luck on your next fishing trip.

Later.

FW had a do-it mold for a 2 oz bullet weight style head that had a groove for skirts.  I almost bought it, maybe I'll grab it this week, that bait looks like a winner for pitching mats.

Hey Boss, can I try some of those too. :smt002 I'm sure it will get plenty of attentions from the rockfish.

Outstanding!!! I might rig something like this on a torpedo sinker, thanks for the idea.  Good luck on your next use of this.
I don't intend on winning any tourney's, I intend on fishing with the brother's OTW and having a good time while at it... NCKA!
