Couldn't help but notice....not a single sturgeon has been entered in the 2011 AOTY Challenge. I guess sitting on anchor paying your dues doesn't count this year? Or it's just to easier to grab points from the other 19 fishes?
My thinking is a few certain fish should be mandatory next year...just my thoughts.

Interesting. I am not a "dino" hunter myself, but the media were full of stories about an epic Sturgeon bite about a month ago and even now. Something to do with the high flow extending fresh water dow further into the Delta.

Here is an example.

Sturgeon fishing remains epic for this time of year and the great fishing is attracting interest despite the first warm spell of the summer.

me and my buddies have been slaying them the last few weeks...there still holding thick in the carqinez strights around port costa/martinez but we have been working the areas around grizzly island. i read that article about the hot bite and me and my buddies just laughed , every spring/summer we catch more stugeon in a week then we do the entire winter. only thing that slows us down is the wind and lack of grass shrimp. right now theres a hot bite in little cut which is a body of water that sits between some islands and is blocked by the westerly gusts...last week i caught one while checking my bait...didnt even know the sucker was hooked! its super easy to pop your sturgeon cherry right now

although it's one of my favorite types of fish to wait for,,,,,the WIND is the reason there are no Yak'd Sturgies yet,,,i was thinking bout it when those reports came out, but the sight of Sheep on the bay everyday, breaks ones drive.

Al, I'm with you on that one. Maybe we can go tag-along with others who are more knowledgeable to this fishing/area. I've already made myself a sturgeon snare months back, but haven't been able to find myself out there to use it yet lol

they're thick in SPB even now... china camp has too many crabs but up around the duck blinds is still holding fish.

I'd fess up, but no pics so it never happened.
