Hey sense it looks like rockfish season is now open for the SMC I was wondering what the fishing looks like out of shelter cove pacifica. I know linda mars good for stripers and crabs but never fished it from a yak. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Winds look doable tomorrow but then again not familiar with the area. Thanks

Wes

Linda Mar used to be a great place to fish, but since the deep water closures, party boats have raped the place pretty good.
Nice place to paddle though.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

The boats outta HMB will generally head south, I've only been on one trip that went north and we got as far as the can in front of Mavericks. After spending countless afternoons out surfing between hmb and SF I've only seen boats passing way outside on their way home from the islands.  When salmon, bass and hali's start showing up on the beaches the SF Bay boats will follow em (and one or two from hmb), but its been a looooong time since I've seen one around pedro point.  If the party boats have been there at all......it is not often and definitely not inline with the pic you're painting.  That stretch of coast has little outside structure and got hammered pretty good decades ago I'm sure, if there's been any major pressure at all its been from private boats, the fleet of small craft that beach there and kayaks.

There's a small private boat launch on the South side corner of Linda Mar. The locals that launch their skiffs from there have done a good job catching a lot of the fish in the Linda Mar / Shelter Cove area. I've seen 4 guys on a skiff come in with limits of little rockfish.

I've seen the party boats back up their boats dangerously close to the surf line on the North side when the stripers are running.
