Closer rock-fishing spot to peninsula

I live in Palo Alto and I'm looking for places to go fishing rockfish. I can go to Monterey, yet I was wondering if there are closer locations (Santa Cruz, Half moon bay etc).

Yes, Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay are both closer options that are often frequented.

If you are new go to Santa Cruz or Capitola. Not the best fishing(although SC has been producing well for some this year) but a good way to practice for more difficult spots
