Hi,

I have 4 13 ft. angling kayaks piled on the floor of my garage. I'm looking for a storage solution that stacks them vertically against the wall to free up floor space. I've searched the forum and haven't found anything that really fits what I'm looking for. The closest solution I've found is by a company called Talic, but the price is pretty high. Any other ideas? Thanks.

I have two sets of slings, and while they were a bit pricey, I LOVE them!  I wouldn't trade them for the world.

Actually, I don't remember them being $50 but maybe they were.  It has been several years since I purchased my last pair and I know I didn't get them straight from Talic.  I believe I got them from kayakfishingstuff back when they were in business and I feel like they were less than $40.

I've never used their other racks so I can't speak for them but their slings are top notch.

What kind of overhead structure do you have?  I have 2 Harken hoisters.  They are 4 point single line hoists.  A little pricey but you can hoist 2 yaks with one.

My brother just uses 2 bike hanger hooks and 2 webbing straps.  Cabelas and Home depot sell inexpensive ratcheting hoists.

If your studs are exposed, hell if they are not exposed, get some backpack strapping material. Make loops big enough to fit your boat in. One at each end. Fasten the strap to the stud with a lag bolt and a large flat washer. Then slide your kayak into the loop one end at a time with help. They will just hang there against the wall. Very inexpensive way to hang the kayak. I also used to hoist up to the bottom of the rafter beams with a pulley and rope. Attach a clip at one end of the rope to go on the kayak handle. Run the rope through the pulley attached to the rafter with a lag hook and down to a cleat mounted on the side of the stud in the wall. The cleat has to be sideways to the wall for strength.

I am going to start producing these in the shop where I work. Intial cost is going to be kind of expensive though. Around 400.00 for a 2 kayak rolling stand with storage. I am currently making one for Dustin and wil post it up when through. Craig

I just bent up some 1" thin wall pipe (EMT) into giant J hooks then drilled two holes for 1/4" x 2 1/2" lag bolts. After it all looked good I slid some pipe insolation over them. If you live or are going to be near Santa Rosa I can bend a couple sets up for you.

I thought he said he wanted to store them Vertically.  Horizontal --- there are several options.  For horizontal I went to Home Depot, bought 2  ten foot tie downs and two screw eye bolts.  Put the bolts into wall studs about 6-8 foot away from each other, hook up the tie downs, slide one end of the yak into the loop of the tie down, then the other end, and cinch 'em up---done deal and cheap.

Well you are right! He did say vertically. So what the big deal. Lean them up against the wall like the kayak shops on a non-skid piece of rubber or something on the floor. Cant get any less expensive than that huh?
