I'm considering an upgrade in the rod and reel department. Does anyone use the Penn 209LC, or for that matter, any conventional reel with a line counter? I'm pretty new to rockfishing, and it seems like a line counter could be pretty useful. Or is it? I can see how trolling with a line counter, but without a downrigger, would be pointless. But it seems like a line counter paired with a fish finder could be advantageous. Thoughts? Experiences? Do the extra parts of a line counter help, or just get in the way or add to maintenance?

or the most part you will fish RF on the bottom so the LC isn't necessary. I do use a LC for Salmon. Its a Daiwa....FWIW.
