Not really kayak related, except some of you may remember this post from last year when O2B and crew were fishing in HMB slaying WSB and Butt's:  http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,25928.msg274802.html He was kind enough to help store fish while O2B went on his slayrides. Well the captian of the boat (Dewie/Duane) is a friend of a co-worker and he was sad to relay this news of some vandal boarding his boat in the middle of the night and sinking his boat.  :smt010 I've been on that boat twice, when he took me and some co-workers out crabbing.  He built that boat with his own two hands, and now he is going to have to gut and rebuild everything to get it running again.

I dont know what is wrong with people... but Dew is a great guy, and didn't deserve this to happen to him.  Whoever you are out there, I hope you get your karma payback for this...

Here is the email I was forwarded:

Quote
OK Just to let everyone know.
Mooch Better went to the bottom tied to the dock sometime between 1:30 and 5:30 am on Sunday morning 5-15-11. Long story short the boat went down for unknown reasons.
When the boat was raised and pumped there was nothing leaking in. When I got her home on the trailer I filled her up with a garden hose and nothing was leaking out. It looks like foul play to me but I can't prove anything.

This has become a salvage opperation now. Mooch will have to be totaly stripped and rebuilt. I will see what the insurance will do in the next couple of weeks.
Anyone that knows me can tell you the ocean is where I live. The best way I can discribe this is that Sunday I attended my own funeral and now I am making all the arangments.
Something good will come of this but for now that is out of sight. I am OK and nobody was hurt so the is the main thing. I have had total support and help form friends and  fishing clubs I belong to and that has been overwelming. Mooch Better will rise again.

Nothing frosts my cookies more than losers who get their jollies vandalizing stuff. Just because your life's in the gutter doesn't mean you need to do this crap.

Sad news but I thought that they haven't found a reason why it sank yet?

What ways are available to cause it to sink?  My little 12' McGreggor has a drain plug and it's been knocked out a few times while on Shasta causing it to sink.  Short of someone pumping water onto it, how would "they" sink it!  I'm sure you've looked at all those possibilities.  Anyone in the marina have a beef with you?

As was mentioned, karma will catch up with who ever was responsible.  Sorry to hear it hapened.

Not only did he build it, but he designed it from scratch too. I spoke to him when he first put it in hmb harbor. He said he had been looking for a boat for some time and couldnt find exactly what he wanted so he built it! You gotta love that. It's seriously one of the nicest boats in the fleet.

Captain Dew is a seriously nice guy. Otter and myself fished salmon on Y-Worry with Mooch Better being the only other boat in the area. Running down to Pidgeon Pt we had an engine overheat. When we stopped to check it out, he immediately called over to us to see if we were ok.
He then put us on the fish. When he hooked up, he'd get on the radio and say "come on over". When we both headed to the barn he stayed in constant contact with is checking in on our slow progress. You just don't find nicer people out there.
If it was foul play someone has some seriously bad karma to deal with.
