I came across these post on another board and since it is revalent to all of us on the sonoma coast I am re-posting.

Posted By a Peter C on NCD web site.

It appears that Sonoma County in a effort to cut cost it looks like Henry 1 won't be flying for much longer.Of course they assist in rescues, but I also see them flying over Santa Rosa chasing the bad guys. When I lived in Arizona helicopters were a desperate villains worst nightmare. They were almost inescapable with their infrared technology, and bright spot light. At the Farmer's Market last Wed the Sheriff's Henry 1 unit was collecting signatures trying to keep Henry 1 around. Please sign the petition, as we are in grave danger of losing this major asset. There are many divers that have been rescued by Henry 1 and one day it could be one of us.

Don't listen to them they can't sign the Petition anyway.

Do you know much about it ? some are in favor or hiring this service out. Wondering which is more cost effective?  Sonoma Co has had quite a few crashes.  Terry any input??????

well at this time those are all the details I have. I am behind this a 100% since I live in the county and tend to spend a whole lot of time on the coast, diving, fishing and just plan hanging out. If I find more info on it I will post and feel free to search as well if you find anything please post.

Re-post from SB but they make allot of good points to how important they are

Henry 1 is crucial tool in most coastal rescues, be they diving, vehicles over cliffs, stranded hikers, search and rescue etc. While the local coastal Sonoma County fire departments and lifeguards are trained and equipped for cliff rescues (and do an excellent job), Henry 1 greatly reduces the time these rescues take. This reduction in time is critical as the closest hospital is Palm Drive in Sebastopol (which doesn't receive traumas), making the next closest Memorial in Santa Rosa (a long ways away). Though Henry 1 usually isn't responsible for transport from the scene to the hospital, Reach has limited capabilities and is not equipped for rescue.
