Aluminum

I need to know if aluminum will corrode in salt water. Are aluminum boats treated with something or does the aluminum hold up to the elements in and of itself? Thanks for the info from those of you who know.

aluminum will oxidize over time but this is as much air as anything. Untreated aluminum should last many years sitting on the ocean floor, so if rigging is in mind the only concern would be strength and mallability.

I'm not sure about the small trailer boats but mfg's of bigger offshore boats or ones that are gonna be moored in the salt get coated with a protectant called sharkskin. 

If you're gonna be making brackets or other rigging I'd just watch out for combining different metals with the AL. I've read that it speeds up electrolysis (not sure about the rate or time frame).  Shouldn't be a problem if you're using a bushing or rubber washer between the two surfaces though.
