On a semi -similar  note,     What's the story with using a 6 volt battery with a  12 volt  bait pump ?      I've heard it slows the speed of the pump down.  My question is
Does it damage the motor running on half voltage ?
Is it better to use a 12v battery ?
Anybody use this method successfully for a few seasons?

  Many Thanks.

I've used a 6V battery on a 500 GPH pump forever.  Works fine. If you have a 360 GPH bait pump, you may want the full 12V.

It also depends on the bait.  With minnows, it doesn't matter much.  With anchovies, you want a lot of water flow, but too much water flow and you're just pushing them into the walls.

My 360gph has worked fine for 3 seasons on 6v, but I'm not that concerned about it's lifespan as I found it at wally world on closeout for $7 and bought the last 3 on the shelf.

In this day and age of $100 touch screen smart phones, why can't Raytheon take a little time off of building Tomahawk guidance systems and give us a low powerd unit that has a battery in the head? This could be paired with a transducer that is self powered that fits in a standard scupper and communicates via wifi or bluetooth. Both could be removable and charged as easily as a cell phone. Really, am I asking too much?

I have had excellent results using a battery tender on all my 12 volt batteries from my 5 amp yak battery to my boat's group 24 gas motor battery.
