Yeah....but there's more friction when pulling it through kelp and its easier to knot up and tangle

When I started diving I went to osh and bought 25' of 1/4 pvc tubing, blew some yellow paint through it with a compressor and knotted off each end.....I still have it and use it more than my 50' neptonic floatline.  For what we do I haven't found the need for spectra cored lines, I'll likely never break the pvc.

yeah I am heading to Lowes and will see what they have. I also need to replace the bands on that gun you sold me...Since I have let it sit they look a little dry and cracked. Also I am thinking of repl the metal wishbone. That looks like it would destroy your hands if a band broke? I suppose I can head to a dive shop hot the materials

If you go the Home Depot route you will probably be better off with 3/8" dia instead of the 1/4". A can of fluorescent or bright color spraycan paint, clip on one end, egg float or nothing at the other, you'll be fine.  For starters a 30-35 ft floatline will do just fine.
Easier option would be to to buy colored tubing from places like Craig Floatlines for $.18/foot, you don't really need end plugs just fold the end tubing and tie back ( you can squirt some silicone caughing ).
Other option is to buy pre-made floatlines. A while back Wallin was selling NorCal floatlines ( no core ) for like 35 bucks.

i just made one last night....totally simple. I think I will be using it to mark abs, etc. I can't imagine the avg gopher or perch is going to take me for a ride! I think the total cost was $5. I had the paint, caulk and swivels.

I will post up a pic today or tomorrow.
