Hi Guys,

Sat..2-18...got on the water at 10:30am..fished until 2 pm. Got 5 trout..biggest 17 1/2 ".   The bigger fish are 5" wide and the smaller ones are 4" wide.  You can get 12" to one on Mon.   Rubber boat had one that was 4.15 lbs.  Don't know how long it was.  But, the net they were using.  The fish could only fit in it half way.  Cold and frosty even at 10:30am.

Sun. fished from 7:30am to 4 pm.  Got 4 by noon and had to stay until 4 to get the last one.  It was a 18".  Sunny..but windy and cold.

Mon...fished from 9-5pm...real slow..got 2...water temp had dropped and I think that is what put the fish off the bite...All fish  on Green Power Bait on the bottom.

Cool, I live in walking distance of that place.  Did you drag the powerbait around or just let it sit?
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

Ken,
Where on the lake did you fish?  I bank fished there before, but never fished on yak there.  I only live 5 min. away from the lake.  I 'd like to tag along next time you fish there.  Post it on Hook-up section.

Hi Paddlefish,

I fish a lot of places.  The swim area, the narrows, and the back side.  Use my fishfinder to find fish.  By paddling slow sometimes you  can find them on the meeter.  Sometime you have to anchor and wait for them to pass.  I fish from 18 to 40 feet.  The problem with this lake is that there is a lot of shore access.  So, sometimes the shore guys will push you out of your spot.  Even if you get there first.

Some guys have 15 ft rods and cast heavy weights.  They can get out far.  But, no fun fighting the trout.  Near the swim area there is a rope that goes all the way around that area.  You can tie up to the ropes (don't know if this is OK with the Rangers).  But, everyone does it.  I have a anchor and used power bait on the bottom.  Watch out on both sides of the swim area there are cables on the bottom and you will get snagged.

I do anchor.  However, a lot of guys will drift or slowly wind in the line.  It seems the trout like to see the bait moving...slow...

Sometimes the fish are in the swim area.  But, it seems like from 3-4pm.  They leave that area and go deep.  Deepest spot I have found in around 90-100 ft.

There is a point on the backside that goes from 15 to 30ft and then drops to 50ft.  The trout seem to follow the shallow area and then hook back up into the narrows.

Dress warm, even on a nice day.  The wind and it does get windy here.  Makes it very cold.

Hope this helps.  Ken kickfish

Yes there are Cats...Saw one about 10 to 12 lbs caught off shore..probably on power bait....But, if you want big cats you need to go to San Luis Forebay and fish at night off the shore....got 4 cats..2 stripers and a LMB one night last year... March is the start of the season down there.  The cats were 8 to 13 lbs.  Lost a 20 lb er....Don't want to talk about that...sorry...
