Anyone recommend a spot near the Peninsula for a newbie to break his cherry? I picked up my first fishing kayak in November and I've been waiting around for some good weekend weather to get out and actually do some fishin. I've done a bit of paddling here and there and thrown a line in for a little bit, but have yet to actually catch a fish. Any lakes or waterways around here that would be easy to get to and give a new guy a fair chance at catching a fish? Any help would be appreciated!

If you are looking to fish the ocean, Pillar Point Harbor at Half Moon Bay has a very easy launch off a sandy beach in a protected harbor. Or you can try Linda Mar. Not sure about fresh water lakes on the peninsula.

Go down to the redwood city harbor. Reys and sharks are almost a sure catch

I'm thinking of a launch 4/9 at New Brighton beach, Capitola. Good place to get in off the beach with the west swell. Target species is a halibut. Gate opens at 8am. Darin....aka-Kimo

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll be sure to try them all. I think it's official, I've got the bug. I was pretty sure I had it before, but I caught my first fish on Saturday and now I'm dying to get back out there! I ended up at San Pablo Res. and it turned out to be a really nice day. There was a nice little breeze going and I could just sort of drift/troll across the bottom of the pond. I got a few hours in and landed a nice little trout (missed one other). And even though the fish weren't exactly jumping in my boat, the whole experience was just a blast. The only problem I have now is how to get around this thing they call "work". If anyone figures that out, be sure let me know. . .

Congrats!!
WTTMadness and you just confirmed what happens when a fish gets caught after planning it all out for months, weeks and or days, & it worked!!!!

SanPablo is one of the best looking lakes in the EastBay(when water level is full) = you need a camera to remember it better. :smt002 (andTOpostPICTUREStoSHAREwithUSplease)

Copy that on the camera. I'm actually holding out for the GoPro HD. Unfortunately, I still have a two more things to get that are ahead on the list. I'm having trouble finding a wetsuit that will fit me, and after looking at just about every fish finder on the planet, I am pretty sure I've got it narrowed down to a Humminbird 365I (black and white) or the 385CI (color). I'm almost afraid to admit this, but I did take a couple of pictures while I was out there. Unfortunately, they were on my old school 35mm dive camera! I'm not even sure people still develop 35mm any longer. . . if they do, I'll be sure to post some pic's (just as soon as I finish up the roll). Only two more days til the weekend, and it looks like a may have a few hours of actual "me" time. Hmmm, where to fish next. . .
