First time crabbing on the Kayak and didn't bag any keepers.  I used a hoop net with with Tuna fish and Squid for bait.  Good Idea John.  I only fish for about 45 minutes so I guess that was about 4 pulls with net.  All but one time I pulled up small dungies.  Unfortunatley throw backs, but it was nice to see crabs in the net each time.  Wind was picking up and my wife and son were on the beach waiting for me.  No swell at all the the wind was blowing pretty hard by the time I started to paddle back. I guess a prelude to the storm of today.  I was planning on heading out early in the morning before the wind picked up but I had to take my son to the doctors for a swollen eye.  It turned out to be some allergic reaction.  When I landed on the beach in the afternoon he asked me where the crabs were, next thing you know my 2 1/2 year old is puking on my feet.  From the point on every 45 minutes util 1 in the am.  I guess he was disappointed about not getting a legal dungie.

hey man, sorry to hear that the crabs were too small. maybe we can meet up and go out sometime on a weekend. i had some weird reaction after going crabbing the other day but i think it was food poisoning. i must have eaten something weird. i was up til  4 am hucking up my guts. didnt sleep for two days or so. not a good feeling. for now i am still a bit weary about crab.

when we go out at linda mar we usually go straight out near the middle of the cove and in about 35-40 feet of water. i was out deeper but it was a lot more rope to pull and crabs were just the same.  i dont have a depth gauge thingy so i just mark my rope each 10 feet and have a decent idea of how deep it is out there. somewhat close.

i dont have any special spots there since i cant find the same spot twice anyhow. i just go out, drop the hoop and fish for kingfish as bait.

half moon bay was good to me the first and only time i crabbed there although the water always seems to be on the move more there. its hard as hell to paddle into the mouth of the harbor with gear dangling off the kayak and wind howling against you.

linda mar has been my favorite for crab so far. next best thing for crab would be to drop bait and dive down and bag them that way i think. when the rain clears up i might try that for fun.
