So Ive been ab diving like 4 times, had rented gear previously. Last time i went i really got it figured out, as far as i was getting down ~20 feet, and figured out the conservation of oxygen thing. I have some trips planned to go this year, and I was thinking of buying some fins/socks and a mask/snorkel.

Any recommendations on the above items, or a kit of them, as well as, what is the closest shop to sonora ca?

Although I myself am a newbie, my friends who dive have told me to check out Freedive shop in Sacramento. I was told that the people there are very helpful and do have a good amount of freedive gear. I know it may be a lil drive out there, but the reason they're located there is expense/cost of living is cheaper there than to have a shop closer to the ocean.

I'm sure others with more experience will chime in :D

Im about 6 foot tall, 210 LBs, and size 10 1/2 foot.

Thanks for the ofIfer on a suit, though I already have 3 wet suitS, have 2/3 full body, 4/5 spring suit, and 5/7 full body,  and 40 lbs of weight.

I had the first 2 suits as kayak suits for out in the ocean, as I dress to dunk. I dont feel comfortable in waders on a surf launch.  ~70 launches/landings, in flat-5 ft swell, and only 3 crashes. Last suit i just bought off CL

my 2 two cents - go to a reputable dive shop that has a good return / exchange policy (I used to work for Aquan Sports in San Carlos, San Mateo - shameless plug :smt002). When you buy a mask, try it on a pool BEFORE you head out into open water to make sure it does not leak.  For spear fisherman or underwater photographers, it's usually recommended to use a mask that is color black. Black masks are better because the light rays from the surface don't interfere with your focus - especially in clear shallow water.

If you go to Aquan Sports, talk to Matt D. or Vince = They know their stuff really well!

I second that, black mask/ skirt is the only way to go!

I will second the Freedive shop. I've been going to them for about 7yrs now, they are very knowledgeable about the gear and will get you set up for reasonable with quality items. I think they are scheduled to be back on the mainland this week. You can call ahead to make sure Greg or Vannessa is there.
