Lake Mendo/ Dark Gulch-Mendo combo trip

Started Sunday by meeting sqwafish up at Lake Mendo for a little striper paddle.  He graciously provided kayaks and rods and bait for 2 of my buddies visiting from Sacramento.  Beautiful day on the lake but the fish were not cooperating.  After a short across the lake and back paddle we decided to head for the Mendo coast.  We dove Dark Gulch just above Heritage House up in Mendocino area  for a few rockfish, 1 scallop and feet that took well over an hour to come back to room temperature.  It was soooo F&*^$^$%ing cold I had an ice cream headache and trouble talking because my lips had no feeling.  Vis. was about 8 ft. and the ocean was otherwise beautiful and cooperative.  Great day when you get to play on or in the water all day.  The rest of the weekend focused on WAF recovery.

Did you freedive the scallop?  I've never seen one, but I'd be more than happy to harvest some.  From what I've heard they're usually pretty deep and require a fair amount of work to get free.

Bigeye is a freedive guy, so I am sure no tanks were involved. I am 1/100th the freediver of guys like b.e.d andJzumi, but I have been able to get scallops.  They seem to be more about the spot.  When I was at HSU we used to get them off of the jetty and it was silly with them.

I did freedive the scallop.  I always do.  I don't do any tank diving on the coast.  Scallop diving is about the spot.  If the conditions are right you can get them in 20ft or less.
