Even with the alarm on I woke up late an hour late.  Met up with TJ95742 & RAWYAK at the launch.  It was a nice day eventhough with all the rain water in previous days had contributed to high water which stirred the water at the port and made it cloudy.  I tired fishing for blue gills at the lunch with no luck then made my way to the opposite side to see if there was anything next to the weedlines.  Nothing!  Decided to go upstream and work next to the pillings and made off with a single good four to five incher.  Being I was by the Locke I decided to work the area.  The water there was looking muddy from the water coming off the main Sac River.  Lost one under the bridge.  Maybe a small one 4-5lber or so but I'd thought it was as snag at first.  The clicker was still on and my spool wasn't free as I got the rod I notice it was a fish pulled on the line as I though it made it's way pulled and felt no weight.  The rest of the day went back out to open water and met the other guys tried to make some bait with no luck then just drifted a little more.   So there!  I'd left one hanging out under Jefferson so for some one.

good to get up early for once and meet up with you guys.  I got a bunch of small stripers, which made for an alright day, but no AOTY upgrades.  Got off the water @ 2:00 before the wind picked up.  Its almost there, but this storm has dropped the water temps again.   :smt012

On another note,  we found a 14" shad, half-dead, swimming in circles with sores/bites all over it.  Not sure what was after it.  It may have been birds, but I know a big striper will eat em too.  A guy working the dock actually told me that he was catching some shad on jigs recently also.

Anyone ever target shad at the port?  I would LOOOOOOOVE to get my hands (and hooks) on one.

Looks like the shad had a run in with Mr. Seal...I doubt a Striper would have done that.  Heck a Striper would have swallowed the Shad.

The odd thing is that whatever hit it, seem to leave it for dead. It was on the surface for awhile splashing around.  I'd think anything big enough to swallow it would have jumped on the chance after it was injured.  Took us some time to get to it and from there it was easy to net up.  I don't know what it was that hit it but I've never seen a shad left wounded like that on the surface before.
